  17. PATCH Notes                    91/12/13

  19. This version of the patch will provide a fix to problems 
  20. using Winfax with WordPerfect for Windows. After installing 
  21. the patch, WINFAX should be re-selected as the Printer 
  22. inside of WordPerfect. This MUST be done even if WINFAX is
  23. currently selected as your printer.

  26. PATCHING WINFAX PRO - IMPORTANT NOTES!!!
  27. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  29. Do not run the PATCH program to update your WINFAX PRO
  30. from inside of Windows, or shelled-out from windows to DOS. 
  31. The PATCH program should be run from DOS only.
  32.  
  33. The Patch procedure may take several minutes. Please be patient. 
  34.  
  35. The disk you have received contains the following files :
  36.  
  37. PATCH.EXE
  38. PATCH.RTP
  39. README
  40.  
  41. The PATCH.EXE program will attempt to locate the WINFAX file(s)
  42. that need to be updated. The PATCH.EXE Program will then update 
  43. your existing WINFAX file(s) to the new version.
  44.  
  45. For specific information on what WINFAX files will be affected by this 
  46. patch use the LIST command line flag.
  47.  
  48. For example:        PATCH /LIST
  49.  
  50. Note:     This patch will not update the original WINFAX distribution
  51.     disks, therefore you should keep a copy of this patch
  52.     disk along with your original diskette in the event that you
  53.     have to re-install WINFAX at a later date!

  56. Running PATCH.EXE
  57. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  58. The utility PATCH.EXE will attempt to locate your WINFAX 
  59. files in the following directories in the given order:
  60.  
  61.     a. Firstly, the current directory is searched, if any of the
  62.     WINFAX files are located they will be updated
  63.  
  64.     b. Next, all subdirectories of the current directory will be
  65.     searched
  66.  
  67.     c. Finally, all directories specified using the PATH enviroment
  68.     variable will be searched
  69.  
  70.  
  71. Note:     During your original installation of WINFAX PRO, the files
  72.     FAXMNG.EXE and VIEWER.DLL would have been placed
  73.     either in the Windows directory (the default) or in a 
  74.     directory specified in the search path. As a result these
  75.     files will be located by PATCH.EXE as they will be in the 
  76.     search path!

  78.     The file WINFAX.DRV would have been installed in the SYSTEM
  79.     directory which is a subdirectory of your WINDOWS directory
  80.     (e.g. c:\windows\system)

  83. Performing the Patch
  84. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  85. In the simplest case (if the recommended directories were used
  86. during WINFAX PRO installation), all the program files would be 
  87. located in the windows directory (e.g. c:\windows) and the driver
  88. would be located in the system sub-directory off the Windows 
  89. directory (e.g. c:\windows\system).

  91. In this case perform the following operations (assuming your
  92. disk containing the patch files and this readme file is in
  93. drive a: and Windows is installed in the directory c:\windows) :

  95.     c:
  96.     cd \windows
  97.     a:patch
  98.  
  99. If the WINFAX files to be patched are not in your Windows
  100. directory and\or its subdirectories, change to the directories
  101. where they are installed and run the PATCH.EXE program.
